Itinerary
Arrive in Basel, host to the grandest Christmas market in Switzerland. Explore the beautifully decorated Old Town, where festive lights and colourful chalet stalls create a magical atmosphere. This medieval city on the Rhine is especially charming during the Christmas season.
The main Christmas markets are held on Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz, right in the heart of the city. A magnificent Christmas tree stands on Münsterplatz, decorated by renowned artisan Johann Wanner. On Claraplatz, the “Sennenhütte” welcomes guests for a cosy fondue experience, while hidden courtyards throughout the city reveal intimate festive corners away from the crowds. During the Christmas countdown, Theater Basel presents a surprise performance each evening in its lobby
Overnight in Basel in a 4* hotel.
After breakfast at the hotel, travel by train across the border into Germany to visit the Christmas market in Freiburg, opening from 10.00am. On arrival, make your way to Rathausplatz, set within the historic old quarter.
Surrounded by charming buildings, the square provides a picturesque backdrop to the market, where you can browse handmade crafts, seasonal decorations and traditional gifts from the Black Forest.
In the late afternoon or early evening, return to Basel by train (approximately 40 minutes).

Breakfast at the hotel. Travel by train to Colmar, a charming Alsatian town renowned for its storybook setting and enchanting Christmas markets. The town is beautifully decorated, with festive lights, timbered houses and traditional stalls.
